Papa Roach is a hard rock band that was formed in 1993 in Vacaville, California. It consist of Jacoby Shaddix on lead vocals, Jerry Horton on guitar, Anthony Palermo on drums and Tobin Esperance on bass guitar. In 1997, they released their debut album entitled “Old Friends from Young Years” through Onion Hardcore Records. On April 25, 2000 they released their sophomore album, and their first one through a major label, “Infest”. It peaked at #5 on the
Billboard 200 chart and was certified triple platinum in July of 2001. It spawned three hit singles; “Last Resort”, “Broken Home” and “Between Angels and
Insects”. On June 18, 2002 they released their third album, Lovehatetragedy, which peaked at number two on the Billboard Charts and was certified gold in late 2002. Papa Roach has since released three albums, Getting Away with Murder in 2004, The Paramour Sessions in 2006 and Metamorphosis in 2009. Metamorphisis has spawned two singles, “Hollywood Whore” and “Lifeline”. Hollywood Whore was first released as music video single and then was offered for free on the band’s official site. Lifeline has peaked at the number 81 position on the Billboard Hot 100 and at number ninety-five on the Canadian Hot 100.
McFly was formed in London, England in 2004. The band derives it’s name from the Back to the Future trilogy and Michael J. Fox’s character Marty McFly. McFly’s members include Tom Fletcher on lead vocals and guitar, Danny Jones on lead guitar, Dougie Poynter on bass guitar and Harry Judd on drums. McFly released their debut album Room on the 3rd Floor in 2004. It debuted at number one in the UK albums chart and has sold over over eight hundred thousand copies to date. They followed the success of their debut album with the release of their second studio album entitled Wonderland in the summer of 2005. It wasn’t quite as successful as Room On The 3rd floor but it still managed to over a quarter a million copies. After Wonderland, McFly released four more studio albums, Just My Luck, Motion in the Ocean, All the Greatest Hits and Radio:Active. As of December 2008, McFly have had sixteen consecutive top twenty singles, seven of which reached #1 in the UK Singles Chart and fifteen of which were consecutive top ten singles. The group have also performed at various charity projects such as Comic Relief, Live 8 and Sport Relief.
Nightwish was formed in Kitee, Finland in 1996. It consist of Anette Olzon on vocals, Tuomas Holopainen on keyboards, Marco Hietala on bass guitar, Emppu Vuorinen on lead guitar and Jukka Nevalainen on drums. Former members include Tarja Turunen and Sami Vänskä. In 1997, they released their debut album “Angels Fall First”. Even though the only single, “The Carpenter” reached number three on the Finnish singles chart, the album failed to achieve it’s high expectations. Then in late 1998 Nightwish released their sophomore album, Oceanborn. Oceanborn has sold more than 68,000 copies in Finland alone. Their
third album entitled Wishmaster was released through Spinefarm Records in July of 2000. It peaked at the number one position on Finnish music charts and has since been certified platinum in Finland. After “Wishmaster”, Nightwish would go on to release six more records and has sold more than 5 million CDs, DVDs and online material internationally. Their biggest US hit single, “Wish I Had an Angel” (2004), made it onto three US film soundtracks as a means to promote their North American tour. Nightwish is currently working on a new album which is scheduled to be released sometime in 2010.
Timbaland is the stage name of Timothy Zachery Mosley. American record producer, singer and rapper born on March 10, 1971 in Norfolk, Virginia. While in high school, Timbaland began a long term collaboration with rapper Melvin Barcliff, who performed under the name of Magoo. Timbaland also joined the production ensemble S.B.I. or “Surrounded By Idiots”. Singer Missy Elliott heard his material and began working with him. As a result, his debut album was recorded and released in 1998. It was titled “Tim’s Bio: Life from da Bassment” and includes many guest artist such as Missy Elliot, Jay-Z, Twista and NAS. Timbaland then went on to produce albums for various artist such as Ludacris, Jay-Z, Petey Pablo and Beck. Timbaland has since gone on to release two more studio albums which include Timbaland Presents Shock Value and Timbaland Presents Shock Value 2. In early 2007, Timbaland was accused of plagiarism regarding his work on the Nelly Furtado track “Do It”. He is alleged to have plagiarized elements from the song “Acid Jazzed Evening” by Finnish artist
Tempest, without giving credit or compensation. In March 2009, he filed a lawsuit against his label, Blackground Records, alleging that they attempted to blackball him after he decided to move from music performance into production.
